How acupuncture can support pregnancy, labour & post-partum

Traditional Chinese Medicine can be a wonderful support for your pregnancy journey. Acupuncture is a natural and gentle way to help you enjoy each of the trimesters. Additionally, it can help you to prepare for the birth of your choosing and to support you and your baby as you navigate motherhood.

At Nautilus Acupuncture we love supporting women during this very special but occasionally challenging time.

Pregnancy complaints and acupuncture

Morning sickness, fatigue, poor circulation, insomnia, reflux, low back or hip pain, headaches and muscle cramps are often considered β€˜just a part of pregnancy’ and you’re often expected to put up with it or suffer through it. But you don’t have to.

Chinese Medicine sees all physical symptoms as an imbalance that can be corrected. The goal of acupuncture is to resolve or minimise discomfort and distress.

You want to feel as vibrant and comfortable as you can while growing your baby. Acupuncture is a fantastic therapy to support optimum health and wellbeing during this time.

Labour preparation and acupuncture

Regular acupuncture during pregnancy is excellent for building your energy reserves and calming your nervous system.

Acupuncture in the later stages of pregnancy can help with stress, worry, fear, and fatigue that may inhibit the naturally occurring hormonal influx during the early stages of labour.

It’s important to find ways to understand the physiological changes in your body that take place in the final stages of pregnancy. Armed with this understanding you will feel fully informed and empowered to undertake the birthing experience you have chosen.

Acupuncture is also beneficial in the preparation for and recovery from planned cesarean births.

Labour preparation treatments should ideally start at approximately 36 weeks but can still be of benefit at any time leading up to birth.

We like to invite birth partners to one of the final treatments to show them a series of acupressure points that can be used throughout labour for pain relief.

Post-partum support with acupuncture

The post-partum period is another area that acupuncture and Chinese Medicine can assist with. This precious time is a wonderful opportunity to treat yourself to a nurturing and nourishing treatment. It can help to address a particular concern or simply to fill your cup back up.

Breastfeeding challenges, stress and anxiety, emotional overwhelm and physical exhaustion don’t have to be a part of your everyday. A little bit of me time goes a long way when it incorporates a gentle but powerful acupuncture treatment.

We don’t mind bubs and toddlers coming along. We make it work!
